Hawa Mahal or can say "Palace of Winds", is a palace in Jaipur, India. Hawa mahal name is because of its structure essentially designed for Woman of Rajghranas (Royal Family Women) to make them could watch street festivities without being seen from the outside. This Palace of wind is built with red and pink sandstone. This palace is situated on the edge of city place, and extends to the women's chambers.
Hawa Mahal was constructed in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh designed in shape of the crown of Krishna, the Hindu god by Lal Chand Ustad. It has unique five-storey outer walls is akin to the honeycomb of a beehive with 953 tiny windows popularly known as jharokhas decorated with intricate latticework. The most important purpose of the lattice was to allow royal ladies to observe everyday life in the street below without being seen, since they had to obey strict "purdah" (face cover). The net also allows cool air from the Venturi effect through the convoluted pattern, cool down the whole area during the hot summers.
In 2006, after a gap of 50 years, re-establishment and renewal works on the Hawa Mahal were started, to give a fresh look to the monument at an estimated cost of Rs 4568 million.
